Kenny mc Donald is from the Ennis road Limerick and Dj O Dwyer from Clonmel Tipperary. Both individuals are working in the Physical studies section in the Garda Training College. Kenny is an ex international Irish rower.He represented Ireland at the 2004 world rowing Championships and Won a silver Medal at the World Cup Rowing Series in the men’s eights in Lucerne in 2005. Kenny has eight Senior Irish Rowing Championships and was part of the Limerick Senior Eight that won the Irish Championships in 2007 for the First time in 80 years.
Dj is an extreme endurance athlete. He has recently completed the Iron man in Switzerland and cycled 1000km over the Alps last year. Dj also took part in an expedition to the south pole Husky sleighing, where he trekked across vast expanses of ice and snow.
Kenny and Dj are under no illusion of the challenge ahead and have set some goals for themselves along the way. They Plan a 36 hour row on the 18th of December.A 48 hour row is then planned in January.The two athletes completed a 24 hour row on the 11th of November covering over 333000 meters.”It was the toughest days training ive done in a while”,said Kenny.”We still have a bit of work to do in preparation for the challenge”.
